now that we have started our journey yesterday we are now on our day two. so are you ready to take photography to a next level? hope you do and i hope that you will journey with me.
this photo was taken during golden hours (afternoon). the idea is from my friend at http://stopscreamgraphy.deviantart.com/
i just want to show to everyone that you can do anything if you have the imagination and creativity. you need to understand the limitations of your gear and how to compensate with its limitation. how you as the master will bend/flex to meet your shot.
it is through our creativity that we excel and it though our limitations that we can make things possible.

taking a 30 challenge: 18-55mm oh my kit lens
now it has been a month that i took my silence. well i don't have followers that would be interested reading or looking at my post. but any ways though it's been a while but i have finally crack an idea that would keep this blog up dated...
well yes folks i have finally took the 30 days challenge... so what is the challenge about? simple the challenge is i will only use my 18-55mm lens aka my trusted kit lens. i will shot everything using a kit lens.
most of you might be thinking why would i use a kit lens? i mean it's not a fast lens... simple because this is all about photography now... enough with the technical aspect of photography it's time to show the art side of it.
i choose the kit lens because of the following reasons;
1. it's has a narrower aperture compare to other lens.
2. it's a short zoom and reasonable wide angle lens.
3. and most of all people think it's a loser. they think that primes is the only lens that could take good photos.
so why kit lens? simple because i want to alter your world and show you what is the power of an altered dimension of a kit lens. so come with me and together we shall journey the world of kit lenses.

i won
i had no idea that they are looking at my photographs... and they did like it some how. and i have never win an award at viewbug. it's really competitive given that you need to out wit the other to grab a prize. but though i may not have a prize money for this but it's an achievement in a way.
i always love light painting and light photography... but being awarded somehow because of the dedication i pour into this... is enough.

in micro world
what does a camera with built in flash that is fired + tripod + extension tubes + a legal size bond paper will do? see for yourself.
i went out to do another macro photography but it's a bit cloudy and worst the wind is blowing. i tried to slow down the shutter speed to make the subject brighter but then again the wind spoil it. i tried to make the ISO higher but it's too grainy. so what i did was open the built in flash and grab a legal size bond paper; i fold it to half then angle it to bounce the light from the build in flash. then i got a wonderful results.

December 23, 2011 is something that we would want to spend our night outdoors this is the time of the year that people at city of naga celebrate dagitab festival... well dagitab means electricity... so you have an idea why they have such festival... the city has two coal powered power plant (it's not that environmental friendly) which is located at brangay colon... the two power plants are just adjacent to each other... the other is at the mountain side while the other is at the sea side they are both separated my the provincial road... so basically they are neighbors...

on the day that the sun goes out i wish i could be with nature. in the mids of the birds singing i want to be out there watching them. i love the wind that blows hard and i want to catch the falling leave to the ground. and on this day i set out to be with mother nature while the sun is still out.

undas: trick or treat

this is the time of the year when having a bad hair day isn't that bad after all. you don't have to worry if you look ugly for people are trying to look ugly this time of the year.
this tradition can be trace back to the medieval times (just like the souling). before poor people go door to door to offer prayers in exchange for food. but now its candies and the prayer part has gone. if we say trick or treat this tradition is made in united states, but other countries celebrate similar customs too, like europe, mixico, canada, asia and africa.
in the philippines we have undas, its close to the day of the dead in mexico (considering spanish influence). if trick or treat has jack-o-lanters, witch costumes and broomsticks, undas has flower and food offirings to the dead.
flowers and candles are place on the tombstones and sometimes food too. most of those who place the food has chinese ancestry, most of them leave it on the tombstone. but traditional filipino believe is that food and drinks are place on the altar at home. during a novena (prayer) candles are lighted up on the doorstep to invite the dead relative's souls. to come inside.
the food is place on the altar and nobody is allowed to touch the food. you can't take your dinner if the novena has started, the souls might join you. if the souls will join you in a meal and you ate their leaf-overs you will lose all of your teeth. after the novena will end the food is leaf at the alter untouch. you will have to wait till all the candles that you lighted up in the house will melt before you can touch the food and placed it in a bag that later will be burred in a pit.
undas is more like a fiesta, and is one of the most celebrated holiday next to christmas and holy week. if trick or treat is just for one night undas is officially celebrated in two days but it really last for a week.

photography thoughts 1

Most newbies want to take good photographs, but who wouldn’t want to? The first thing that they would think is to grab the latest camera out in the market (they can afford).
They miss a lot like reading the fundamentals on how to take a good photograph (compositions). They have no idea what they are doing and what is in their head is having a kick-ass camera that has the biggest pixels in the world.
What is the importance of composition? Basically everything! It’s how you compose your image. It’s how you arrange different object and make a subject stand out making it work with all other elements in your photograph.
Photography is not about having the latest thing in the world of photography but how to make an image into an art that has a kick-ass statement.
If you have books about photography then start reading. Dig a little in the place where they call World Wide Web (google it down), it’s like hitting a goldmine. Reading is very important so that you will know what in the world you are doing. It’s like saying before you take a dive for it make sure that there are no rock below. And if you can afford to go to a photography class then get your butt in there.
You need to work with what you’ve got, meaning start with what you have. So if you have a point and shoot then go out and start shooting something that interest you. But before you do it you need to understand your camera. Know its limitations and its functions. So it’s very important to read the manuals of your camera. Well you don’t want to ruin it, right?
When I started digital photography I use a cell phone to take my photographs. And then I was hook with it. I just can’t stop thinking about it. I did buy a point and shoot after a year.
Do I have a kick ass DSLR? Nope! I don’t. But I have used a Sony Alpha 330 that my brother buys for himself. He let me use if for he wants to be photograph and not the other way around.
All I am saying is that it’s not really a big deal if you don’t have the gadget right now but how you will improvise to have that wonderful photograph. If you don’t have a camera, even a point and shoot you can still use a camera phone or borrow camera from a friend or family. Having less doesn’t mean that you stop yourself learning the art of photography.

wave to move it move it
after a long time touring the region i finally have the chance to go to the one of the most holy places in cebu, simala. simala is very famous of its miraculous virgin that every year people just flood the place to pray for a miracle. though i have no evidence that these miracles happened but i love to watch these believers spend some time to thank and ask to their GOD.
in a world that most would catch up time, its really out of the ordinary that they are here praying. like there is nothing in the world maters at this moment. they do spend at least a year for this. and the first hand experience did somehow proves that most Filipinos are deeply religious.
this picture reminds me of the black Nazarene and the sto. nino acts. its like they have a particular steps (dance) for the whole thing. waving of a white handkerchief or towel. September 8 is when they wave to move it... move it!

what now?!
it has been days now after posting something here that i feel like i stuck in the middle of everything. i mean i think that there are a lot of things that needs to be photographed than just my little angel. ok i really got exited to see her that i just want to take all of her photographs. i do look like a stalker (lol) with my little kiddo. i want to take ever move she made. just like what had happened last week that she finally have her first tooth. i was like going crazy taking her pictures (of her tooth)!
right now i don't know if i will stop taking her pics. i was even planning to have a photo a day for her for the next five years. (yeah! it's not like i don't take a picture of her every hour.)
